TLDR

Australian startup Enrola has closed a $2.1 million seed round led by Purpose Ventures, with Antler, AfterWork Ventures and Skalata also participating. The company walked away from its vocational education marketplace in September 2025 to sell the SMS-based AI sales agents it had originally built for itself.

From student enrolments to sales conversations

Australian startup Enrola has closed a A$2.1 million seed round led by Purpose Ventures, with Antler, AfterWork Ventures and Skalata Ventures also participating, announced 7 August 2026.[1] The raise comes less than a year after co-founders Jo Thomas and Yvette Quinby made a clean break from the marketplace they had spent two years building.

Enrola was registered in November 2023 as an online student-recruitment marketplace, built to help prospective learners navigate a vocational education sector with more than 2,000 course options and roughly 4.5 million annual enrolments in Australia.[2] Converting curious browsers into paying students turned out to be the harder problem, and the more valuable one to solve.

The tool they built for themselves became the company

To move leads through the enrolment funnel, Thomas and Quinby built their own AI-driven SMS agent. It worked well enough that in September 2025 they parked the marketplace entirely and turned the agent into a standalone product for other businesses.[3] That decision is now a funded company.

Enrola's AI agents engage inbound and outbound leads via SMS around the clock, qualifying prospects, nurturing conversations and, where the sale is straightforward enough, closing it outright.[3] When a conversation reaches a complexity threshold or a customer signals they want a human, the agent hands off to the client's sales team. The product targets high-consideration B2C purchases: categories where customers research heavily, deliberate slowly and often ghost live sales calls altogether.

Verticals served include telecommunications, insurance, broadband comparison, education and financial services.[3] SMS as the primary channel sits where the customer already is, requires no app download and, unlike a website chatbot, follows the lead after they have left the page.

Why Purpose Ventures backed the round

Thomas framed the investment thesis around a structural shift in buying behaviour. "The way people buy has already changed, and it is going to keep changing fast," Thomas said. "Customers research and decide on their own terms now, at any hour, and increasingly with their own AI agents doing the legwork."[1]

Derek Gerrard, Managing Director of Purpose Ventures, pointed to the founders' combined experience alongside market size as the deciding factors. "It is an enormous, expensive problem hiding in plain sight," Gerrard said. "Jo and WA-based Yvette impressed us with their 25 years of experience each, and both understand this category from the inside. They are building for where buying is heading, not where it has been."[1]

Competitive pressure on B2C sales teams is not coming only from AI tools that sellers use; it is also coming from AI tools that buyers use to filter, compare and shortlist before a human salesperson makes contact. An agent that operates on the buyer's timeline rather than office hours is the direct response to that shift.

Traction and what the capital is for

Enrola now serves customers across Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Ireland, and has processed over 100,000 leads through its platform.[3] The company reported 28 customers across six verticals since the September 2025 pivot, a figure Bushletter could not independently verify beyond the company's own reporting.

The seed capital follows an $800,000 pre-seed in late 2024, bringing total funds raised to just under A$3 million.[1] Enrola has not publicly detailed the specific use of funds.

Enrola Pty Ltd (ABN 38 672 915 196) was registered on 14 November 2023, meaning the company has moved from incorporation to a multi-market, venture-backed AI platform in under three years.[2] The pace reflects both the founders' domain experience and the speed at which AI tooling has matured enough to make conversational sales agents commercially viable.

The market context

B2C sales conversion is a known cost centre across the sectors Enrola targets. Insurance and broadband comparison markets in Australia run large contact centre operations to handle inbound leads, many of which arrive outside business hours or go cold before a callback is made. Education providers face a similar pattern: a prospective student submits a course enquiry at 10pm and receives a phone call the next morning, by which time they have enrolled elsewhere.

Automating that first-response window with an agent that can qualify intent, answer product questions and escalate only the warmest leads is the core value proposition. Whether it holds across the full range of verticals Enrola is targeting, including financial services, will depend heavily on how regulators treat AI-driven sales conversations in those categories. Neither Enrola nor its investors have commented publicly on the regulatory posture of the product in those markets.

Purpose Ventures announced the round on 7 August 2026.
