Australia pulls 24 scientists from a subantarctic island over bird flu
The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water ordered all 24 personnel withdrawn from the Macquarie Island research station on 28 August 2026, citing the psychosocial risk of a potential H5 avian influenza outbreak.
